But there are issues, and I’d like to employ the help of any more tech-savvy people.

So while he turns on and starts up and whatnot, I’m stuck on this screen:

No wallpaper or icons or anything.

Anyone know what’s up? And potential ways to remedy this? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

I would love to find a way to cast the video feed from online pirating websites like wcofun.com to our big TV. Because sometimes I want to share with my dad and watch stuff with him, and that's impossible when streaming services and cable only provide so much. One example: The Batman (2004). Not available anywhere up here in Canada (unless we pay for a new streaming service, i think). And that's shameful. Because I would love to play some of that show with my dad. There's other things i'd love to share too, but it's almost impossible when you can't hook these internet websites onto your big screen tv. It makes me sad.

Okay. So here's my current situation: I'm trying to get The Sims 3 to run on my Linux machine. The Sims 3 has a "Gold" rating on the Wine AppDb, so it should run fine. I can't even get in game to test anything because of this:

The game's brightness, by default, is extremely low. As a result, it's supposed to hijack your screen controls and make the brightness like 200% or something. I've seen this behavior on macOS. However, for some reason, on Linux it isn't doing that, and the window stays dark. The solution is to run it in windowed mode, which does fix it, but... then it's in windowed mode (ew). So I saw on Reddit that Lazy Duchess's Smooth Patch came force the game into a borderless window mode. Great! That'll fix all my problems. However.

In order to make the Smooth Patch run, you have to launch the game from TheSims3Launcher.exe

Problem: I don't have a disc drive on this computer. I backed up all my TS3 DVDs onto a 128 GB flash drive, and I installed the game from there. My usual method of playing is to bypass the launcher entirely and launch the game directly using the TS3.exe file. However, doing so will cause the Smooth Patch not to launch. If I do try to open the launcher, of course, I can't launch the game because I don't have the disc inserted.

So, like, wtf do I do? I can't use LD's Custom Launcher because it's for 1.69 only, and the disc version is 1.67. So, like, is there any way to launch the game from the launcher without a DVD? Like, are there cracked launchers or some way of bypassing the disc requirement. Idk.

I can use a USB disc drive, but digging that thing out every single time I want to launch the game is gonna be tedious. I'd be nice to just be able to launch it normally. So any tips would be appreciated.

I could also, in theory, try compressing my TS3 Base Game folder into a .iso file and seeing if that'll trick the game. Idk, though, because idk what the launcher is looking for when it's verifying the disc.

Since Double Exposure is completely banned in my country (for being a queer piece of media), does anybody know how I can download the game somehow? I'm fine with a pirated version, I just want to archive the damn game.

So this is a v long shot but just in case....my pc is not working. I'm on the verge of just resetting it and trying to start from scratch. Here is the issue:

When I try and play big or modern games on my PC (Dragon Age The Veilguard, BG3, Horizon Forbidden West). It either crashes or I get the following message (smaller and older games like Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2 appear to be working). I use an AMD RX7800 XT graphics card, 32GB RAM, built September 2024 with no issues until the last week.

I've tried using the AMD cleanup utility and then reinstalling with the auto-detect but I'm still getting the same message. My Windows 11 is fully updated, as are the games themselves. I can't see anything wrong with the system itself in any of the diagnostics.

My next port of calls are:

- try and install older graphics drivers to see if a newer released one has caused the problem?

- open up the pc case and see if there's anything in there that looks like it's causing the problem i.e. a lose wire etc.

If anyone has had a similar problem and has found a work around PLEASE let me know. I'm really struggling

Need some help from anyone who may know computers. Downloaded BG3 onto my computer, everything is installed and set but when I try to start the game I get an error message that says "Failed to create rendering device! The application failed to create the rendering device. Please make sure you meet the minimum specifications! (DX11 compatible GPU with the latest drivers installed)."

My drivers are up to date, I've uninstalled and reinstalled them multiples times and am still getting this message every time. Anyone know what the issue is and how I could fix it?

Not sure where to ask this, so im posting here as well as some forums BUT:

Basically I really love using Figma for making interactive menus. I have used Figma for mocking up websites and mobile apps before at my job, and in my odd time I’ve taken to using figma to prototype and make sketches of things like UI and flowcharts for the game my friends and I are developing. And even more recently I prototyped a fully custom, nice-looking, interactive character sheet for my character in the current campaign im playing.

Now, It’s got me thinking: I would really, really love to build custom character sheets for people as a side job as its something i genuinely enjoy doing. But the problem is, figma will not exist forever and I have foreseen that it might be a pain to build someone a prototype and I am the sole person to make updates whenever their character levels, they get new gear etc and I don’t really like the idea of forcing people to make an account for a tool they wont want to learn or use outside of the prototype i send them. Additionally, Figma prototype is ultimately not ideal for more distinguished and specific character sheets as I’d like for it to be.

For example, I would love to make buttons that a user can tap to mark how many death saves they have succeeded or failed, I want the user to be able to mark for inspiration and conditions, etc. I know I could possibly feasibly make it work all inside one scrollable frame, but the way I prefer to set up the character sheets requires navigating to different frames with buttons.

What other good alternatives are there? I like to make these character sheets for mobile use (phones and tablets) so should I jump to app development? I don’t mind learning new or more complicated softwares, just as long as the software is free, there’s a free trial long enough for me to learn the gist of the software, a single larger purchase for a license for a good amount of features, or the cost for subscription is low. Is Godot a good software to use for this? My team is learning godot anyway for our game as we were discouraged from Unreal Engine.

.hey is it just me or did google update minesweeper. particles are slower, resolutions are a hell of a lot higher, and the buttons are SO SMALL (mobile specific)

.i used to play minesweeper so much, my best time was 36 seconds on medium mode, but this update has made it literally unplayable (my average score is now somewhere around 70 instead of being 40-50)

.does anyone know how to fix this, or any alternatives that work the same as google's minesweeper mobile? (which does work differently than other minesweeper variants, even just pc google minesweeper! works like this to get around the problems caused by only being able to left click)

Art isn’t showing on AO3 🥺

Oh no not again!! I’ve heard this had been happening for a few people…

The website I use to create my image links is catbox. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t degrade the quality of my art, but I’m wondering if there’s something to do with it that’s not working for some people?

I’m really not technically-inclined so I’d appreciate any advice from people :((

All I want is a functional dynamic wallpaper on my laptop. I’m trying to install Sunpaper which requires wallutils.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, I’ve gotten to the final step where I need to run “make” in the wallutil git clone, but every time I do that I get an error that says it can’t run because it was expecting “go” version 1.23, and I have “go” version 1.22.5 which is weird because when I run “go version” it says I have 1.18.1, and on the wallutils GitHub, they say a version of 1.11 or later is required and 1.17 or later is recommended.

So idk which way it up, and idk what to fucking do. I just want a pretty wallpaper. 🙃 I’m this 🤏 close to moving back to macOS and just using OCLP to keep it up to date.

And for reference, I’m running Zorin OS 17.2 which is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and utilizes the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS kernel. So idk. I freshly install the “go” command using the requirements install command found on wallutil’s GitHub, so idk what else to do. 🫠
